Reflection

This AE Senior Thesis was a year long research project on the design and construction of the Northeast Hospital Expansion project. The Summer prior to the thesis's commencement was spent recieving a building and a set of drawings for study as well as gathering industry contacts. The Fall semester of thesis inlcuded the three technical reports meant for students to gain a better understanding of their building's systems, delivery method, project team, schedule, project costs, and construction methods. Finally, the spring semester was utilized for students to investigate the effects of implementing altervative systems or methods in four different areas of their own option and at least two breadth options.

Through the AE Senior Thesis, I was able to explore current industry issues not fully covered in my regular course work. I was able to gain a more in-depth knowledge of the construction industry through hands on learning and self-exploration. AE Senior Thesis allowed for excellent networking with industry members both on the Northeast Expansion project and on other projects. These industry members were not limited to only construction managers, but also engineers, owners, tradesmen, and academics alike. By conducting all of the reports and analyses necessary for completion, old skills were sharped and new knowledge and techniques were learned.
