Dean's Community Message

April 1, 2020

Dear College of Engineering Community,

Welcome to April! Today’s quote was submitted by Priya Baboo, director of industry, innovation, and development. To submit a quote, please email me.

“Close scrutiny will show that most ‘crisis situations’ are opportunities to either advance, or stay where you are.”
—Maxwell Maltz

I’m proud to say that we are advancing — from students, staff, and faculty stepping up to ensure education and operations persist to the Manufacturing and Sterilization for COVID-19 (MASC) effort led by Tim Simpson to help answer immediate need. As we rise to this challenge, we are sure to advance further as we extend our own capabilities and learn what is possible when we come together (via Zoom) to innovate and collaborate.

Here are today’s updates:

2020 Undergraduate Exhibition Call for Judges

Undergraduate students from all Penn State campuses will present their research, inquiry, or creative activity at this virtual event, held April 15–17. Faculty, emeriti faculty, staff, post-docs, and doctoral students are needed to judge four to six submissions each. Please sign up by April 10. Through your participation, you will help to keep the Penn State community engaged and connected despite our physical distance from one another.

College of Engineering Student Support Resources

The College of Engineering is continuing to update its resource page during this challenging time. Recent updates include Zoom office hours with interns in the Center for Engineering Outreach and Inclusion. All student support offices continue to operate remotely.

IT Resources for Students

To help students without reliable internet access, the University is working with several providers to expand student options. The latest option is for students to obtain cell phones to use as mobile hotspots, which can be accessed through AT&T and Verizon. For more information, please contact the Penn State service desk. You can also email or call 814-865-4357.

Please stay connected. Additional information is available on the University’s informational site as well as the College of Engineering resources site. Connect directly with me LinkedIn and follow the college on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Continue to email questions and comments to L-COE_CORONA_CRISIS_TEAM@engr.psu.edu.

Be well!
