Dean's Community Message

April 2, 2020

Dear College of Engineering Community,

I hope you are doing well! If you have questions or comments, please continue to reach out to L-COE_CORONA_CRISIS_TEAM@engr.psu.edu and we will respond directly or via these community email messages. For me, April has long felt like the beginning of something new, particularly because of the typical start of the Major League Baseball season (Go Cubs!). Obviously, the baseball season — like so much else — has been postponed, so today’s quote from Hall of Fame Cubs’ third baseman Ron Santo, one of my childhood favorites, was a definite pick-me-up.

“You can have all the talent in the world, it’s not gonna get you through … it’s what you have in your heart.”

Thanks to Sara Kuhlman, Coordinator of International Experiences in the Office of Global Engineering Engagement, for the submission. Please keep them coming! Here are today’s updates:

University FAQs Update

The Penn State coronavirus information site has been structured to more visibly highlight updates to the student, employee and community FAQs section. The latest updates include information on how to protect remote classes from “Zoom-bombing,” plans for housing and meal plan refunds, and webcam usage during remote learning, among other topics.

Celebrating Excellence

We want to recognize members of the college community who are going above and beyond during these challenging times. If you want to give a shout-out to someone — or even a group of people — doing great work, please complete our online recognition form. Submissions will be used for public communication efforts, including on the web, on social media, in this email, or elsewhere. Although we can’t be together physically at this time, we can definitely still recognize excellence and show appreciation for exemplary work.

IMPACT Monthly

The April issue of our monthly email newsletter focuses on just some of the ways the college has been confronting the challenges posed by COVID-19. It also includes a brief video thank you from me to our entire community. Please take a look and know that I am truly thankful for all you are doing.

Additional information is available on the College of Engineering resources site. You can also connect directly with me on LinkedIn and follow the college on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Until tomorrow, take care!
