Dean's Community Message

April 18, 2020

Dear College of Engineering Community,

I hope you are all enjoying your Saturday amid this crazy weather we have been experiencing. These frequent shifts in temperature remind me that sometimes life can mimic the weather, frequently shifting and often unpredictable.

That leads me to today’s quote/song lyrics — written by Sting, but originally released by The Police — submitted by Jim Urban, a graduate student in Additive Manufacturing and Design:

“When the world is running down, you make the best of what’s still around!”

I’m partial to this quote because when I was a senior in high school, I saw The Police perform live with The Go-Go’s. What a great show that was!

For another Sting-COVID-19 connection and a good laugh, check out this video of Jimmy Fallon, Sting, and The Roots remix of the increasingly relevant classic “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” — also originally released by The Police.

Here are today’s updates:

Call for Penn State Pride Month Submissions

As part of Penn State Pride Month, the College of Engineering is gathering short video clips to share across Penn State. Please consider recording a few well wishes for Pride Month to be included in the College of Engineering’s video. Clips should be no longer than 10 seconds and be uploaded here.

2020 Virtual Blue-White Tailgate

Penn State Athletics will be hosting a virtual tailgate today from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in honor of the annual Blue-White Tailgate/Game. This tailgate will create an opportunity for Penn State Football fans to gather, virtually, and show their Penn State pride. More information can be found here.

Remember that you can always connect with me on LinkedIn and follow the college on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Also, note that the University’s coronavirus information site has been updated to be more easily navigable. Be sure to bookmark it for the latest updates.

Be well!
