Dean's Community Message
March 12, 2021
Dear College of Engineering Community,
I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our students, staff, and faculty for the tremendous work they have accomplished in the past year.
Despite the many setbacks that were thrown our way, the College of Engineering community continued to persevere. Thank you for your hard work, support, and, most importantly, your resilience.
I never imagined that remote work and learning would last this long. It has officially been a year since we’ve worked together in person. It’s odd milestone to mark, but you all have done such extraordinary work in the face of many difficulties.
I made a short video expressing my admiration and gratitude for all you do. Please take a moment to view it here.
Please remember that you are always welcome to connect with me via email or LinkedIn.
“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”
—Robert Collier
Here are today’s updates:
Resources for COVID-19 Vaccinations
The Centre Daily Times recently released a list of locations in Centre County that are administering COVID-19 vaccines. Keep in mind that supply is limited and some locations do not currently have supplies but are offering waitlists. Those who qualify for Phase 1A of Pennsylvania’s vaccination distribution should reference this resource article. Also keep in mind that vaccinations are available in other counties. This interactive map shows locations across Pennsylvania where vaccines are available.
President Barron to Host Webcasts Focused on Pandemic Updates
President Barron will host a series of webcasts this spring to discuss topics for the University community about the impact of the pandemic on Penn State, the University’s ongoing response, and plans as the University substantially expands in-person courses this summer and plans for a full on-campus experience in the fall. The first webcast will take place on March 31 at 3:30 p.m. Details on how to watch are forthcoming. More information can be found here.
Zoom Reminder: Do Not Publicly Post Zoom Links Online
In order to avoid Zoom-bombing, please remember to refrain from posting Zoom meeting links publicly on social media platforms and other online sites. The University has shared recommended guidelines on how to properly advertise and promote virtual events to keep them secure.
Reminder: Registration for Summer Courses Opens March 25
Registration for summer 2021 courses at all Penn State campuses will open on Thursday, March 25. Students can choose from thousands of course offered in a variety of delivery modes. Registration for summer 2021 classes will open in LionPATH for all students, regardless of credits earned. More information can be found here.
Teaching Tip #81 – Gather mid-semester feedback from your students
Using the Engineering Feedback on Teaching Evaluation (EFTE) is a great method for gathering mid-semester feedback, and it is available as a Canvas survey that you can import directly into your course. To implement the ETFE in your course, follow the directions on the Leonhard Center Website.
Have a great weekend!
