Assistant/Associate Director - Center for Global Engineering Engagement

The Center for Global Engineering Engagement, within the College of Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is soliciting applications for a full-time, non-tenure line Teaching Professor – Open Rank and may be filled as an Assistant or Associate Director as determined by qualifications. The College seeks an innovative, visionary thinker to drive strategic expansion and enhancement of faculty-driven international education opportunities, for engineering students that strive to achieve equity and access for all participants. It is expected that this role will advance program sustainability by:

  • Developing expertise on details of faculty-led programs through ongoing communications with departments, program leaders, the Office of Global Programs, and contacts abroad
  • Supporting faculty in creating impactful programs that emphasize collaborations with strategic partners and initiatives
  • Supporting the development of itineraries for faculty-led programs that encourage gains in global competencies, intercultural learning, and foreign language
  • Promoting best practices on education abroad programs, including the development of workshops related to excellence in running engineering programs abroad
  • Assisting in developing and delivering pre-departure courses and workshops for faculty and students as they prepare to travel abroad
  • Overseeing assessment of faculty-led programs as a basis for programmatic enhancements to achieve academic and developmental objectives
  • Promoting opportunities for virtual global engagement
  • Assisting in creating and managing budgets for faculty-led programs.

While primary duties will be focused on faculty-led programs, the Assistant/Associate Director will be a member of the Center for Global Engineering Engagement’s leadership team and is expected to have broad responsibilities in the unit that may include overseeing a variety of internationalization projects.


  • A terminal degree (Ph.D., D.Ed.) from an accredited institution is preferred
  • Minimum qualification of a Master’s Degree
  • Experience leading international programs and/or teaching abroad is highly desirable
  • Experience with program budgets a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • A passion for working with students to expand their global awareness and experience
  • Personal experience with international travel (living, working or studying abroad) and enhanced global perspective, including best practices in study abroad programming
  • Knowledge of a foreign language is preferred
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering faculty and navigate complex policies and procedures

This is a limited-term appointment for three (3) years from the date of hire with excellent chances of renewal.
