Assistant Research Professor (Engineering Science and Mechanics)

The Engineering Science and Mechanics department at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking to hire a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor with interdisciplinary skills related to 3D bioprinting and regenerative medicine. Research will specifically be expected to include bioprinting of lung and bone tissue, and maintenance and downstream processing of iPSCs to form pancreatic, lung, or endothelial cells.

The candidate should have a proven record in the above-mentioned fields with a strong background in a range of molecular biology techniques, mammalian cell culture and isolation, culture of lung cells at air-liquid interface, lung biology, preparation of hydrogels, 3D cell culture, 3D bioprinting, flow cytometry techniques, protein analysis (including immunohistochemistry), tissue histology, animal handling, and post-operation techniques. Specific skills in lung tissue engineering, iPSCs differentiation to lung tissue, microfluidics, and/or vascular biology will be preferred.

The candidate may also participate in lectures given to undergraduate and graduate students, as requested. Such teaching duties may include in-person, remote and online courses, labs, and remote access sessions to nanotechnology tools using various technologies.

The applicant must have a doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field. Experience in grant writing is highly desired. This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with good possibility of re-funding.
