Senior Director of Academic Advising – Associate Teaching Professor

The College of Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is a recognized world leader in impactful teaching and learning; research; and service to the University, the profession and society. We promote a culture of equity and inclusion, wherein everyone is welcome; everyone is respected; everyone's opinion and contributions are valued; and everyone strives for excellence in themselves, in their colleagues, and in the institution.

To support these ideals, the College’s vision to inspire change and impact tomorrow, and the belief that academic advising plays an integral role in enhancing student success which is central to the University’s teaching and learning mission, the College of Engineering is reimagining our undergraduate academic advising structure. We are seeking interested and qualified candidates for the position of Senior Director of Academic Advising to lead the innovative expansion and redesign of a comprehensive college-wide academic advising structure at the University Park campus. This inaugural role will work with current College faculty and professional advising leaders to establish the foundational framework, will oversee the hiring and onboarding of an expanded advising team, and lead the overall enhancement of undergraduate academic advising in the College.

This professional track teaching faculty position may choose to teach a section of first year seminar. But the primary teaching responsibilities will be focused on oversight and enhancement of the advising function, which we view as teaching on an individual and small group scale rather than in a formally assigned classroom setting. This individual will also be teaching the core of advisers across the college about advising best practices and student development. This person will also be active in scholarly research and dissemination regarding advising innovations.

This is a limited-term, non-tenure line faculty appointment in the office of the Assistant Dean for Academic Support and Global Programs funded for 5 years from the date of hire with excellent possibility of refunding. Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. in a related field by the start of the appointment and at least five years of related experience. Applicants should apply through Workday and submit a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, an academic advising philosophy statement, and contact information for four references.

The Pennsylvania State University is committed to and accountable for advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability in all of its forms. We embrace individual uniqueness, foster a culture of inclusion that supports both broad and specific diversity initiatives, leverage the educational and institutional benefits of diversity in society and nature, and engage all individuals to help them thrive. We value inclusion as a core strength and an essential element of our public service mission.
