Associate Research Professor or Research Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering (CHIMES)

The Center for Heterogeneous Integration of Micro Electronic Systems (CHIMES) at the Pennsylvania State University, directed by Prof. Madhavan Swaminathan and supported by Semiconductor Research Corporation, is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as its Managing Director. CHIMES is an interdisciplinary center consisting of 14 universities, with Penn State being the lead university. The focus of the center is on the development of next generation technologies for 3D monolithic and Heterogeneous Integration.

The Managing Director will report to the Center Director and will serve as the day-to-day coordinator of the center as it relates to all aspects of operations. This position will work with Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators on all aspects of operations. The successful candidate will manage, distribute, and facilitate budgets in a timely fashion, as well as coordinate all aspects of required annual reviews with PI’s and sponsors/industry, including annual reports. The Managing Director will also coordinate the necessary interactions with the students, SRC (Semiconductor Research Corporation), DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and industry partners. This individual will act as the liaison to SRC when the Center Director is unavailable and will ensure reports are submitted to SRC accurately, fully, and in a timely fashion to meet deadlines as required.

A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or closely related areas is preferred. An Associate Research Professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their research; must have demonstrated ability as a researcher; and must have shown evidence of professional growth and scholarship in their discipline. Alternatively, the Associate Research Professor should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their research; must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a researcher; and must have shown evidence of professional growth and scholarship in their discipline at a level of distinction beyond that of the Assistant Research Professor. A Research Professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their research; must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a researcher; and must have shown evidence of professional growth and scholarship in their discipline at a level of distinction beyond that of Associate Research Professor.
