The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a non-tenure-line Assistant Research Professor. The successful candidate will lead research and development activities in two project areas: the first focuses on the research of Li metal anode evolution to study the mechanism of Li metal anode degradation, and the second area focuses on the development of new solid electrolytes and solid-state batteries.

The Assistant Research Professor will be expected to take a leadership role in their research project, take paths to achieve project objectives and milestones, and author novel publications. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor students, fulfill project administration functions, and assist in proposal development.

The Assistant Research Professor should possess a Ph.D in mechanical engineering or a related field by the appointment start date. Alternatively, the Assistant Research Professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent, must have demonstrated ability as a researcher, and must have shown evidence of professional growth and scholarship in their discipline. Experience in development and fabrication of solid state batteries is required. The successful candidate should be skilled in solid state materials synthesis for development of new solid electrolytes, as well as have the ability to independently conduct, analyze, and process the characterization data of lithium metal anodes, cathodes, and electrolytes.

Additional Information:

Interested applicants should submit their CV, cover letter, and 3-5 references.
