Professional Track Teaching Faculty in Engineering Design and Innovation, College of Engineering

The School of Engineering Design and Innovation within the College of Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a full-time professional track (non-tenure-line) teaching faculty position.

The School offers courses at both University Park and World Campus. The School offers courses related to the following programs:

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate is expected to teach up to five courses per year. While most of the teaching is likely to be of EDSGN 100 Cornerstone Engineering Design (required for most first-year engineering students), the opportunity may exist to utilize the successful candidate’s expertise in other design courses or programs of study within the school. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, undergraduate teaching, curricular development, curricular assessment, and committee assignments. Professional development is also an expected component of this role.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor or Associate Teaching Professor include a master’s degree or a Ph.D. in an engineering-related field by the start of the appointment and complementary teaching, industry, or other experience. The title of Professor of Practice should be reserved for persons who have accumulated a decade or more of high level and leadership experience in the private or public sectors outside the academy. Candidates will be considered for an academic rank commensurate with their education and experience in accordance with AC21.

Evidence of excellent teaching potential and enthusiasm for interacting with students is required. Applied experience and evidence of the ability to function in a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary team environment is a plus. This position requires excellent writing and oral communication skills.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

This is a 36- week term appointment, funded for one year from the date of hire, with an excellent possibility of renewal. ?The initial appointment rank will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024.
