2022 REU dates: June 6– August 12

The Cornell Center for Materials Research is offering a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in 2017. Students will have the opportunity to work directly with faculty on interdisciplinary materials research projects involving chemistry, physics, materials science, and engineering disciplines. Students will also participate in an organized program of lectures, laboratory visits and a variety of recreational activities.

Applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduates who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Applicants must submit a complete application that includes:
Two Letters of Recommendation
Recent School Transcripts
Statement of Interest
Selection of top five projects from a list of projects available in 2022
Applicants must be eighteen years of age or older before June 6, 2022.
Applicants must not have received a Bachelor's degree before the end of the program in August 2022.
If you have already participated in a CCMR REU program, you are NOT eligible to apply again.
Minority and women candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

All STEM majors are welcome to apply.

Cornell students interested in REU programs are encouraged to apply outside of Cornell University.

Terms of Award:

Housing is provided; meals are not included.
Selection is based on academic standing and faculty recommendations.

This REU Program uses a rolling admission process beginning January 2021 until positions are filled, usually March 31, 2022. The earlier your application is completed, the better your chance for acceptance.

The 10-week program takes place on Cornell’s Ithaca campus and includes: a stipend of $5,600; free housing in a Cornell University dorm; and additional travel funds for non–CU students. The CCMR REU Program requires residency at Cornell Ithaca campus from June 6 to August 12, 2022, attendance of all program sessions, and completion of all assigned projects. The CCMR REU participants are required to work full-time in the program and may not hold outside jobs or enroll in classes. Payment of the stipend is conditioned on the completion of all requirements.
