ASHRAE Scholarships

Major related to heating, refrigerating, and air-conditioning industry

Purpose:

Through its scholarships, ASHRAE seeks to motivate students and prospective students worldwide to pursue an engineering or technology career in the HVAC&R field. The Society’s Scholarship Program also serves the public interest by aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers in HVAC&R.

Over the course of 27 years ASHRAE has awarded more than $1.5 million to over 300 deserving students.

Eligibility:

1. must have a cumulative college Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30%
2. be enrolled as a first-year student at a post-secondary educational institution that meets at least one of the following criteria:
-- the institution has an active ASHRAE student branch ASHRAE Student Branches or
-- the program is accredited in the USA by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) www.abet.org or
-- the program is accredited outside the USA by a signatory agency of the Washington Accord http://www.washingtonaccord.org/Washington-Accord/Accredited.cfm or has a signed Memorandum of Understanding with ABET http://www.abet.org/memoranda-of-understanding/

Terms of Award:

--Four one-year $3,000 scholarships available to undergraduate students enrolled full-time in their first year of college in a pre-engineering, engineering, or engineering technology program leading to a bachelor’s degree and
--A one-year $5,000 scholarship available annually to a full-time undergraduate pre-engineering or engineering student entering their sophomore year of college and pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that traditionally has been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession.
Scholarships are awarded for the academic year following the application deadline beginning with the fall semester. Re-applications accepted from former scholarship applicants and recipients who meet current criteria.

Please Submit:

1. Official transcript of college grades. Transcript must be mailed in a separately sealed envelope. Photocopies will not be accepted.
2. Three signed letters of recommendation as follows: one from an instructor or faculty advisor, a current or past employer, and another character reference (other than a family member). In cases where the institution has an ASHRAE student branch on campus, a letter from the faculty advisor of that branch may be one of the three letters of recommendation
