Purpose:

The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Educational Trust is pleased to request applications for the DFI Educational Trust Penn State University Civil Engineering Scholarship which provides scholarship funding to undergraduate and graduate civil engineering students attending Penn State University.

The Deep Foundations Institute Educational Trust is an independent, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2006 by the Deep Foundations Institute (an industry association) as its charitable arm.

The mission of the Trust is to support and encourage individuals in the fields of study related to the deep foundations industry by providing scholarships and opportunities to meet and work with deep foundations industry leaders.

The Trust manages 19 Scholarship Funds to provide financial support to students interested in pursuing a career in deep foundations.. In addition, education and outreach programs seek to engage students and young professionals in the deep foundations industry. Each year, several fundraising events are organized to raise awareness and donations for the Educational Trust programs.

Since its founding, the DFI Educational Trust has awarded more than $1.4 million in scholarships and grants to more than 400 students studying at colleges and universities across the United States and Canada.

The Trust is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees and administered by staff of the Deep Foundations Institute, at DFI’s offices in Hawthorne, New Jersey.

Eligibility:

Eligibility
Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time (as defined by the school) in a graduate or undergraduate civil engineering program at Penn State University.
The minimum GPA required is 3.0/4.0.
Applicants must demonstrate an interest in the deep foundations industry.
Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Terms of Award:

Award
Two scholarships, each in the amount of $2,500, will be awarded in 2021. Award may be used for funding tuition, fees, books, and/or educational living expenses.

Scholarship check, payable to the student, will be sent in January 2022 after proof of enrollment and other required information is received by the DFI Educational Trust.

Required Documents (to be uploaded with application):

Personal essay, no more than 500 words, highlighting why the applicant chose to pursue a deep foundations- related career, extra-curricular activities, leadership capabilities, long term plans and goals, and any special financial need.
One-page résumé, including work experience, honors, activities and organizations.
One official transcript.
Minimum of two letters of recommendation, one of which must be completed by a faculty member at the applicant’s school.
