AE 481W/482 Course Reflection:
BIM Thesis offers a great opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative manner. This project is the first opportunity to work together again after the fourth year curriculum split. This allows for the teams to learn from each other through the design of a building project. That being said, I felt that the AEI competition project did not offer enough challenge or opportunities to learn from building professionals to be used as a senior year thesis project. BIM studio offered many learning opportunities by having industry professionals give lectures and advice with our projects. I thought that this would be carried over into BIM thesis however because of the AEI project's structure we missed out on these opportunities. Also, coming from BIM studio I felt that the lack of an architect on the project team was a missed learning opportunity. The fifth year thesis project is primarily an engineering project however missing an architect leads to an incomplete project team.

Overall I learned a lot from my classmates and working with the AE faculty. I would recommend any fourth year student to take BIM thesis if possible. This project is a unique opportunity that employers find impressive at job interviews.
