AE 481W/482 Course Reflection:
When I saw my first PSU AE thesis presentation as a Freshman in 2009, the quality of work and extensive knowledge of subject material in all the presentations that I saw made me start dreading the day it would be my turn to do one. I thought that I would never be able to put together such professional, informative presentations and answer faculty questions with such ease. However, as the years went by, the PSU AE department prepared me little by little to do just that, and when I look back, the experience I had with my Senior Thesis was definitely a positive one. I never really felt overwhelmed by work, and I never felt incompetent in my knowledge of architectural engineering to solve any problems that might arise. On the contrary, I enjoyed putting to use all of the skills and technologies that I gained an understanding of while at school. As an added bonus, taking part in BIM Thesis gave me valuable lessons on interacting with a team and solving problems in each of the four disciplines. Studying, working hard, setting deadlines, and forming bonds with the teachers and students makes Senior Thesis a project that can actually be extremely enjoyable. I'd love to go back and tell my Freshman self that, but perhaps by putting it in writing I can help teach that lesson a little sooner to future Freshmen of this great program.
