Technical Reports

Technical Report 1

The purpose of Technical Report 1 is to explore the physical existing conditions of the structural system of the Peggy Ryan Williams Center, located in Ithaca, New York. The contents of this report include the foundation system, gravity system, lateral system, loads and their respective load paths, materials, design codes, and special structural features.

Technical Report 2

The purpose of Technical Report 2 is to calculate loads on the Peggy Ryan Williams Center, according to the codes in which it was originally designed (primarily ASCE7-98). The contents of this report include the gravity loads, snow drifts, wind loads, and seismic load calculations.

Technical Report 3

The purpose of Technical Report 3 is to perform gravity load spot checks on a typical bay and to explore alternative gravity framing systems for the Peggy Ryan Williams Center. The alternative designs consist of a non-composite steel system, a glulam system, and a prestressed concrete system. These alternatives were then compared and ranked in such areas as weight, cost, and depth.

Technical Report 4

The purpose of Technical Report 4 was to determine if the building's lateral system is adequate for the wind and seismic loads according to industry standard serviceability and strength considerations. In order to answer this question, a 3D structural computer model was constructed using ETABS. Once the model was verified, it was used to determine the member forces and drifts of various wind and earthquake load cases. The results were then interpreted to determine if the lateral system was in fact adequate.
