Dean's Community Message
April 4, 2020
Dear College of Engineering Community,
I hope you have a chance to enjoy some fresh air today (six feet away from others, of course), and that the rain holds out until tomorrow. Today’s quote comes from A.A. Milne, by way of Christopher Robin and submitted by Chris Masters, Assistant Dean for Academic Support and Global Programs.
“You are braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
We are all working our way through an unprecedented situation. That’s the key — we are continuing. We are figuring things out, we are adapting, and, eventually, we will find ourselves on the other side. We don’t know what the other side looks like, but our resilience will certainly continue to shine.
As a reminder, please connect with me personally on LinkedIn and follow the college on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. I’m finding joy in social media while social distancing, and I hope you will join me.
Today, we don’t have University-related updates (all of which may be found here), but I do want to share a small collection of articles I’ve found interesting and/or helpful this week:
- College Made Them Feel Equal. The Virus Exposed How Unequal Their Lives Are. (The New York Times, April 4, 2020)
- How to Hope: Lessons from a Children’s Hospital (The New Yorker, April 3, 2020)
- Stop Trying to Be Productive (The New York Times, April 1, 2020)
- Why You Should Ignore All That Coronavirus-Inspired Productivity Pressure (The Chronicle of Higher Education, March 27, 2020)
- I have a smile on my face underneath this mask (Wall Street Journal, April 4, 2020)
Stay safe and be well!
