Inspire and Impact Good Things: GivingTuesday

Celebrate the "We Are" spirit and power of generosity on GivingTuesday by making a gift to support Penn State engineers. Your generous donations will help fund programs within our college that advocate for students’ success by providing them with the tools they need to excel academically and enhance their overall experience at Penn State.

Early giving starts on Monday, November 13 at 8:00 a.m. We hope that you will consider making a gift or becoming a champion to help us lead the way this GivingTuesday.

The University’s ninth GivingTuesday celebration will officially launch at 6:55 p.m. ET on November 27—or 18:55 in military time, a nod to the year of Penn State’s founding—and run until 11:59 p.m. ET on November 28. Any gift, large or small, is greatly appreciated by the students, faculty, and staff in the College of Engineering.

Learn more about the giving opportunities for 2023 below.

College of Engineering

Department of Architectural Engineering

Founded in 1910, the Department of Architectural Engineering at Penn State is the oldest continuously accredited architectural engineering program in the United States. Gifts will support the Scholarships and Academic Excellence Funds, allowing the department to continue its tradition of excellence by supporting current and future architectural engineering pioneers. Donations are essential to providing financial opportunities to students in the architectural engineering family as they strive to succeed in their academic careers. Your gift will ensure that extra funds are available to help our students along their path to academic success and make an important and essential difference in an architectural engineering student’s life.

Engineers in Action

The Penn State chapter of Engineers in Action (EIA) travels to developing nations to build pedestrian bridges. Over the past eight years, the organization has built nine bridges in Bolivia, Rwanda, and Panama. During 2021-22, the travel team constructed a 37-meter-long bridge in Eswatini. Since their initiative began, EIA as an organization has hit its goal of 100 bridges built.

Engineering Leadership Development Program

The Engineering Leadership Development (ELD) program provides a challenging, relevant, dynamic cross-cultural experience that further engages students in their education while preparing them for leadership roles in a technical environment. Program courses provide students with an understanding of the individual, team, and organizational leadership through involvement in both Penn State-based and international partnership-based teams, aiming to design, build, deliver, and sustain innovative solutions. Support to ELD will directly offset student expenses for international travel to Pretoria, South Africa and Lugano, Switzerland.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

In the Department of Mechanical Engineering, our faculty and students are innovating today what will impact tomorrow’s solutions to meeting energy, homeland security, biomedical device, and transportation systems. Several mechanical engineering courses including ME 348: Circuit Analysis, Instrumentation, and Statistics and ME 454: Mechatronics require Arduino-based hardware kits for hands-on labs. Students previously needed to purchase three separate kits for a total cost of nearly $300. This fall, we created an “entrance to major” kit that includes the component for all three courses. These kits cost $199 plus taxes and shipping.

Penn State Engineering Alumni Society Endowed Scholarship

The Penn State Engineering Alumni Society (PSEAS) provides guidance and support to college leadership, sponsors student programs, awards student scholarships, and recognizes faculty and staff excellence. In 1998, a gift from the members of the PSEAS board helped to establish the PSEAS Endowed Scholarship, which supports undergraduate students in the College of Engineering. Without the kindness of our donors, the road to a degree would likely be much more difficult.
